Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi in collaboration with Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Margao and Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, organised a one-day symposium on ‘New trends in Konkani poetry over the last decade’ at Rosary College, Navelim.
The symposium began with the inaugural ceremony which was honoured by the presence of the renowned Konkani poet Madhav Borkar, who was the chief guest and the keynote speaker. In his keynote address, Madhav highlighted the unique contributions of poets like Dr Manohar Rai Sardesai, Shankar Bhandari, and Bayabav. Melvyn Rodrigues, convenor, Konkani Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi, presided over the inaugural function. Prof Helic M Barretto, principal of Rosary College was the guest of honour. Mangaldas Bhat, secretary of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal also addressed the gathering.

The symposium included two sessions, ‘Village Life and Women in Youth Poetry’ and ‘Social Perspectives in Youth Poetry.’ The first session, chaired by Dr Ramita Gurav, included papers presented by Urvashi Naik, Dr Tanvi Kamat Babolkar, and Mamta Verlekar. The second session, chaired by Dr Prakash Parienkar, included papers presented by Akash Gaonkar, Gaurang Bhandiye, and Govind Mopkar.
The symposium was attended by Konkani poets, teachers and students from various colleges of Goa. Amenda Cunha and Sanisha Fernandes compered the program, and Fr Roman Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks.
