A play by the
Mustard Seed Art Company is always
anticipated in Goa as the production includes universal themes that are current
and thought provoking. Most importantly, the cast and crew of the amateur
theatre company don’t disappoint the audience. Their new original play ‘Good
Luck, Bad Luck, Who Knows?’ is written by Isabel Santa Rita Vas and directed by
Isabel and Kiran Bhandari. The cast comprises Andria Antao, Impana Kulkarni,
Kalidas Kurdikar, Karishma Alvares, Kimberly Noronha, Kiran Bhandari, Nellie
Velho Pereira, Prasad Kalangutkar, Sarah Fernandes and Vibhav Sawant. ‘What
if?’, the only song in the play, is composed by Rui Lobo and sung by Kimberly
Gomes. The song will be performed to music by Rui, Leroy, Emmanuel, Maria Jose,
Simeone and Ariedon. The story offers the audience a complete package of
entertainment with dance, song, laughter, mime and food for thought.
The play will be staged at Gomant Vidya Niketan, Margao on
October 1, 2019, at Institute Menezes Braganza, Panjim on October 3 and at
Parish Hall, Aldona on October 5. All the shows will commence at 6pm.

Working in the field of theatre in Goa for the last thirty-two
years, The Mustard Seed Art Company encourages local talent. Founder of The
Mustard Seed Art Company, Isabel Santa Rita Vas is an English Literature
teacher and co-director Kiran Bhandari is a teacher at Shantadurga High School,
Sancoale. Kiran has been a part of the theatre company since 2003 and has acted
in over 30 plays. “We wanted to celebrate different Indian personalities like
Rabindranath Tagore, Babasaheb Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi through the play. We
wanted to save the streets and celebrate the arts at the same time. Each of the
actors finds out what moves them with theatre. We incorporated current issues
in the play. We have been practising for two months for the play,” says Kiran.
The play deals with
how a street is like a home, with its pathways and street furniture, its trees
and doorways and windows and attics and passersby. The street creates
fascinating connections between people. When a homely inner street is
threatened with garbage and parking issues, something essential can change. To
further someone’s greedy and brainless schemes, the character and soul of a
place are tragically lost forever. ‘Good luck, bad luck, who knows?’ is
something that will move the audience.
“One of the themes is
the way we treat our streets in our surrounding area or villages. We take care
of our homes but neglect and disrespect our streets. It’s only when somebody’s
vested interest take over our streets that we realise its value,” says Isabel
about the play. The play is dedicated to the memory of Mustard Seed friends
Sania Cotta, Alito Sequeira and Reuben Aguiar.
