The 6th Goa History Quiz interschool competition 2016 was organised by Xavier Centre of Historical Research in collaboration with Sunday Evening Quiz Club on September 16 (preliminary round) and September 24 (final round). This year the Quiz, which is one of the most eagerly awaited event in the school calendar, witnessed 222 students from 42 schools from all the corners of Goa (Vasco, Sanquelim, Canacona, Ponda) participating in it. Rajiv D’Silva, the quiz master, assisted by Anirudh SenGupta, skilfully conducted the quiz which involved intense and closely fought oral, visual, audio rounds on different aspects of Goan history and culture.
In a closely fought final the first prize of Rs 5000 and the XCHR Goa History Quiz rolling trophy was won by Saniya Pednekar, Agnes Fonseca and Shreyas Jamkhandi from St John of the Cross HS, Sanquelim. The second and third prizes of Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 along with plaques went to the same school, Holy Family HS, Porvorim to Salvius D’Cunha, Eden Heredia and Ujwal Tendulkar and Aloma Saldanha, Ariston Rodrigues and Madhusudan Hasbe respectively.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte was the Chief Guest at the event. He along with one of the benefactors, Charlotte Hayward, Proprietor of Vivenda Boutique Hotels, Majorda gave away the prizes, while Fr Savio Abreu SJ, Director of XCHR welcome the gathering and Fr Tony da Silva, Administrator of XCHR proposed the vote of thanks. The audience too actively participated in the quiz, as there were many prizes for them, while all the quiz participants were given certificates.
