The traditional Fama of Infant Jesus was celebrated with pomp and gaiety
at Our Lady of Merces Church, Colva on Monday, October 12, 2015. The concelebrated High Mass took place at 5:30am. Fr Joseph Assumota da Silva, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Merces Church was the main celebrant. In his homily, he stressed on Lord Jesus’ teachings and His obedience to His parents and advised the faithfuls who had gathered there to inculcate the teachings and commandments of Jesus, to forgive others, and to live in society with peace and unity and brotherhood which is on a decline in today’s world.
Beside Fr Joseph, there were other cocelebrants for the High Mass.
Following the High Mass, in a religious ceremony, the miraculous statue of Infant Jesus was brought down from the special altar by the Assistant Parish Priest in the presence of Confraria members and a large number of devotees. The statue was then taken in a procession for the blessings of the ‘Madi’. Hundreds of devotees were seen in queue from the wee hours of the morning to kiss the sacred image of Menino Jesus.
