After a lively musical performance at a restaurant in Calangute,
Bradwel Pinto
received a call from his elder brother; a call that he would break his heart.
It brought the news that his cousin, Oastler, had died in an accident. Soon
after, the emotions he felt, the heartbreak, flowed out in the form of a song.
“The visuals that played out in front of me on the day of the
funeral are some I can’t forget. I used this scene in my song’s chorus, ‘You
closed your eyes and I saw you drift away. Your mama’s crying, bring him back
to me. You sunk into the ground and I knew that you left us and went away.’
That’s why the song is called, ‘Life ain’t fair’, because he was one of the most
innocent and beautiful souls I knew,” says Bradwel Pinto from Sangolda.
Bradwel is the son of Seby Pinto of Forefront and Anseca. Coming
from a musical family, their love for music goes back four generations. He was
inspired by his father to take up music. “My father brought home a tiny
keyboard when I was five years old and I started playing with it. By the age of
seven, I started keyboard classes and I had my first performance at Kala
Academy, Panjim, just a week after starting classes for World Music Day,
organised by Alliance Française. The stage soon became my happiest place,” adds
Bradwel.

‘Life ain’t fair’ is the first song from Bradwel’s EP (Extended
Play), which will include two more songs. “The songs are from my upcoming EP
titled ‘Cease to Exist’ and the video for this song was shot by my close friend
Jonathan Gonzalves. It is an original song written and produced by me as I
wanted to do something on the lines of Chester Benington of Linkin Park’s vocal
style. The music world lost this great artist too this year. This is my first
song as a solo artist and the next song will be out by December,” says this 4th
year Engineering Student of Agnel Institute of Technology and Design, Assagao.
Bradwel is a 7th
Grade pianist and 4th Grade in Clarinet from Trinity School of Music London. He
formed the rock band ‘The Horsemen’ in October 2014 and they were the opening
act when Vengaboys performed in Goa. “The band was formed by me with Rohit
Almeida on bass guitar and Donovan Monteiro on drums. Currently our line up
consists of Royston D’Souza, vocals and rhythm guitar, Donovan on drums and
Ashvajit Mahalunkar on bass guitar while I play the guitar and vocals. We
recently performed at the opening night of the season at Southern Deck,
Benaulim,” says the 21-year-old.
Highly influenced by
the rock/metal genre, Bradwel is inspired by Slash, Jim Root and Andy James on
the guitar while he adores the vocals of Chester Benington and Corey Taylor.
His favourite rock personality is Kurt Cobain and he follows the bands,
Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park, Slipknot and Nirvana. “Chester gave a royal
look to a rock band with his vocals and music aspects.” Bradwel has his own
channel on YouTube with a couple of covers of popular artistes.
Coming
back to his single, Bradwel says that he wants the song to reach out to
youngsters. “I felt really hurt to lose my cousin and this was followed by the
tragic accident in which Lee Ann Rocha and Ethan lost their lives. We had many
mutual friends and I could see the pain they were going through. They could not
even talk about the incident. Many were left completely shattered. I want
youngsters to realise the importance of life and be safe on the roads,”
concludes Bradwel.
