The beautiful ceremony
of the midnight mass beginning with the lighting of the Easter candle will be
missed. The joy of making homemade Easter eggs might have delighted a few with
the free time at hand but the lockdown has certainly disappointed many who
can’t partake in the Eucharistic celebration of the Risen Lord.
Prominent people from
different walks of life reminisce about their fond memories of Easter
My favourite memory
will be the Post Easter midnight mass in Goa. After 40 days of Lenten
sacrifice, this was the time when my village friends in Sirsaim used to gather
on the Patto sing songs, sit and chat till the dawn and the following day with
family we would gather together and break the long due celebrations with good
food and drinks. Easter celebrations were all different then– Billy Joe Fernandes, illustrator and
cartoonist
My favourite memory is
getting dressed up for the grand midnight mass along with my family. In the
morning, we would have Easter egg hunt and in the afternoon enjoy good lunch
with my family which includes all my favourite dishes. This year, Easter falls
on my father’s birthday which will be celebrated at home. The Panjim
Traditional and Festival committee used to organise free Easter tiatrs at Kala
Academy and we used to watch it. Even my movie trailers of films would be out
on social media on Easter Sunday, they would consider it good luck– Kevin D’Mello, actor
The season of Lent and
Easter have always been a very emotional and highly valued experience for me.
Since childhood, I’ve grown up knowing it’s importance and trying to do more
everytime in whatever ways possible to me. So every Easter is special as I feel
it only gets deeper and meaningful as I grow up.
What I cherish the
most and am missing the most this time is the Pascal Triduum and the Easter
Vigil celebrations. The midnight mass at the church with the entire community,
the preparations and celebration at home with family, the wishing and that
feeling of rejoicing everywhere. It’s all of it put together that makes the
memory all the more precious.- Esther Noronha, Actress
Honestly, I love going
to church with family on Easter Sunday for the image of the Risen Saviour makes
me feel so joyful than the image of the dying one. In our village of Saligao,
our community is still steeped in deep devotion and the soulful, mournful
traditional outdoor ceremonies touch a cord. But in modern times, I relate to
our church and Easter differently for I believe that Christ lives over again in
his Church and that the Church lives and dies and rises. We are the church.
Although we follow traditions, I believe our church is beyond the times. This
recurring cycle of Good Friday and Easter Sunday goes on. Easter eggs delight
me but I do not dwell on these but on quiet family time. This year my Easter
will be experiencing acceptance– Clarice Vaz, artist and author
