The next ‘Big’ thing for Goa

Goa continues to grow as the music destination of the country with American Heavy metal band Mr. Big all set to perform here in August and possibilities of a show by international popstar Ricky Martin later in the year

American Heavy metal band Mr. Big will
be performing in Goa in the month of August. This will be the first time a
major rock act will be playing in the state. The dates for the concert are
being worked out and the show is expected to be held in a hotel with limited
tickets.

Roussel De Miranda of HYPE Entertainment,
that recently organised the Vengaboys show in the state, said that all the bits
were falling into place and the band would perform in the state. When asked if
this would be the first of many major acts coming to the state, he said, “Well,
I am certainly doing my best and it is time these acts start looking at Goa
apart from Mumbai and Bengaluru which are regular destinations.”

Asked if he intended to bring any other
band or rockstar to Goa, he said that Goa was always looking for good
entertainment and that he would certainly be looking at various options.
Sources in the local event management industry revealed that there was a
distinct possibility that Ricky Martin could be coming over sometime later in
the year but nothing had been finalised as yet.

Mr. Big takes its name from the song by English
rock band Free which was eventually covered by the band on their 1993 album ‘Bump
Ahead’. The band gained commercial success and fame with their second album, ‘Lean
into it’ in 1991 which featured two ballads, ‘To Be With You’ and ‘Just Take My
Heart’.  It was a number one hit in 15
countries and was also very popular in India, which was now watching a lot more
international music with the launch of Channel V.  The band features two musicians who are
considered masters on their instruments – William “Billy” Sheehan and Paul
Gilbert. Sheehan is considered one of the best bassists in the rock genre and
has won the Best Rock Bass Player readers poll in ‘Guitar Player Magazine’ five
times while Gilbert was voted fourth-best on ‘GuitarOne’ magazine’s ‘Top 10
Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time’ and has also ranked in ‘50 Fastest
Guitarists of All Time’ list. The other members of the band are Eric Martin and
Pat Torpey.

The band has something for everyone.
Perhaps all that remains to be said is let the show begin.
