Have
you ever listened to a singer dazzle their listeners with just the
power of their voice, and dreamt of being in their shoes? If yes,
then here’s the perfect opportunity for you. Colours
Infinity TV channel is coming up with the second edition of ‘The
Stage’,
a talent hunt for the next English popstar. Singers from all over
India will be competing against each other to win the title of
‘Indian Singing Superstar’. Entries will be initially screened from
video submissions and the shortlisted ones will be invited to
audition.
“This
is a
first-of-its-kind
show for
Indian
Television, wherein we are looking for people who are passionate
about singing and music and can sing English songs.
The ground is
free of barriers; we welcome people from any genre;
you just have to be above 18
years of age,” says Anooja Banotra, who is handling the Goa section
of
the auditions.
All
one has to do is fill a questionnaire and attach two videos and the
audio. “One video should be with your introduction,
which includes your name, age and city,
and also tell us about what instruments you can play and genres you
can sing. Additional information can include what challenges you
faced in your singing career and whether you were supported by your
parents or not. The first video should
be around 6
minutes
long, with
three minutes of introduction and three minutes of your song.
The second
video should be the singing video for three minutes.
If needed,
you can use only one instrument and one audio song of yours. All the
videos and audio need to be just the vocals without background music.
We only
want cover
songs;
self composed
songs will not be entertained,”
adds Anooja.
Colin
D’Cruz of Jazz Goa is helping the contestants by making demo videos
for them, without charging a fee. “Last
year, we had sent in a contestant from Goa but she backed out after
the selection and we couldn’t send in any contestant in her place,
which meant that Goa was not represented on the national stage. This
year, I am hoping to meet more singers who show interest in getting
their videos
across. Goa is
known as the land of music and I am surprised by the poor response.
The show is keen on
giving exposure
to Goan singers and yet no one from Goa is coming forward,”
says Colin.
The
singers don’t have to have any background in music,
just a great
voice. All they have to do is display
their singing
talent. “This will be a great experience for upcoming singers as
the entire crew of the show will be coming down to Goa for the
auditions once their videos are shortlisted. The
doors of my studio are open to anyone who wants to record their song,
at no cost. Then the
single just
has to be sent
across to the selection panel in Mumbai. The video can even be
recorded on a cellphone,” adds Colin.
Last
year,
nearly 40 contestants auditioned for the show from Goa. So
far, only 10-12 good singers have auditioned. “I am disappointed as
there are high expectations from singers from Goa,” says Colin.
Bijal
Keniya, the Project Head of casting for ‘The Stage’ in Mumbai,
says, “The response in Goa has not been that great. We have so far
not received any great singers and we are looking at having at least
50 auditions when we come to Goa. It is also sad to see good singers
backing out due to time constraints
and other
commitments. The show is looking out for pop singers but all genres
are welcome and we want versatile singers,” says Bijal, who will be
conducting the auditions on
July 8, 2016
in Goa. The show will be on air sometime
in August
2016.
