Drunk with power and fearless of death, the demon
soon conquered the three worlds — heaven, earth, and hell. The gods prayed for mercy so they could be saved from the atrocities of the demon. Finally Ganesh, the remover of obstacles, took the form of Vakratunda and captured Matsaryasur. In fear of Ganesh’s immense strength, Matsaryasur begged for forgiveness. The Vakratunda form forgave him and set him free on the condition that he would not
trouble the Gods again. Peace was restored once again in the three lokas.
