Tim Bergling, who is famously known for his stage name Avicii, had long spoken of his problems with alcoholism and his struggles as an introvert in adapting to the hard-partying deejaying lifestyle. After retiring in 2016 from touring, when he was just 26, little did anyone know that his life would end at 28. One of the biggest deejays and music producers on the scene right now, Avicii’s struggle to continue as an overachieving perfectionist caught up with him. As his family said, he ‘could not go on any longer’.
Salvino Miranda is a known name in the EDM circle in Goa. A fan of Avicii, he works on his own mixes. Speaking about competition in Goa, Salvino says, “There are few producers in Goa and we seek help from each other, whenever needed. Almost 95 per cent of the deejays in Goa support my work and they play my mixes in their sets. But to keep this name, I definitely have to give my best. The biggest challenge is that I have to sacrifice my sleep and I put in a maximum of 6-7 hours a day in production and still feel it is not enough.”

A bank manager, and a deejay and music producer in his off time, Benz Coutinho from Porvorim explains that keeping up with your passion is equally important. “It’s about giving time preference and keeping your passion alive. There is and always will be competition around you but how you can be distinct depends totally on your performance. If you are entertaining then the club will want you back. I loved Avicii’s music and I still play his songs in my sets because he was a popular artiste around the world.” Benz informs that he is the first Indian to come on a record label, LokoSound, based in the US, with his original mix, ‘Zinger’.
