Wet green and the right positive

In normal times this would have been a season of rejoicing and rejuvenation. But even now, when the rains come in across the fields and fall on tiled roofs and trickle down the village roads, there's a romance that rekindles. In times of stress and despair, the monsoons are always an elixir. Cafe speaks to Goans who speak about the simple joys of the monsoons

After the heat of the summer, comes the welcome relief of the rains. The Goan rains wash the earth giving a fantastic earthy perfume. It is the time for football games out in the fields, it is the time for reading books, eating savouries and drinking some hot tea.  The intense Goan monsoon is an experience everyone should go through at least once in their lives.

Monsoon! It’s time mother earth spreads its sweet muddy fragrance…. while I sit by the window watching the water droplets running down the window panes! Every time it recreates and refreshes my childhood memories and lightens up the mood. The monsoons are those days for me when it’s pouring heavily and I just sit out in the balcony with some sips of tea and enjoy moms yummy pakoras and yes not to forget enjoying the pouring rain and getting wet is every child’s wish!

Monsoon always reminds me of my school. My experience with rains every year was the same during my school days. I and my siblings enjoyed going to school while the rains accompanied us! Rains remind me of the days of happiness and yes, the aroma of mud!

The monsoons have always been my all-time favourite season. My best monsoon memory was playing football in the rains, enjoying the sweet fragrance of the damp earth as I bolted across the field, feeling the raindrops trickle down my sweaty face leaving me fresh and energetic as ever!

My favourite monsoon memory is sitting by the window and watching the big fat rain drops fall,   relishing the smell, sound, and the feel, while, having a cup of coffee thinking deeply about life. This makes the monsoons among the most enjoyable and memorial times of my life.

My most favourite memory of the monsoon season is the cycle trip of my high school time. I was in class 9 and the whole batch was taken all the way from Panjim to Narve on our bicycles. It was a really scenic, beautiful place and I totally had an amazing experience riding through the rains along with my friends.

Football in monsoon is filled with joy especially when u come from a countryside village of Bhatpal . We all know It’s too exhausting to play football under the summer heat. Winter has its own problem of making us lazy and so we tend to sleep or relax rather than play. That leaves us with the monsoons being the only time of the year apt for a good game of football.

My favourite memory of playing football in monsoons has been getting of drenched in water in the village fields. Though moms do hate us getting dirty but footballers never mind getting down and dirty or even tackling in the slippery soil. I remember playing with by village friends we used to play friendlies and despite heavy rains we never looked to go back home.

I have been following Indian Football from my childhood days and passion to play can be best enjoyed in the rains of Goa. Football is fun and it becomes even more awesome during rains. Not only the football players but whoever is passionate about sports would never turn down a game of football.  My best memory was of school days when every evening we used to walk to the nearest Church Ground and enjoy football. I used to purposely fall in the muddy water to get the fun even more memorable.

Monsoon football is something we enjoy the most in Goa. Nothing compares to the splashing of mud and yes pouring rains means a sip of coffee. My best time was with college friends, we used to spend hours practicing free kicks and penalty shootouts at Candolim, The rain added to the fun but we were also able to get friends together while others preferred indoor games. The show must go on.
