Organisation may be defined as a systematic approach to doing common tasks promptly and efficiently, and ensuring that a job is well done at the end of the day. So whatever be our calling, if we wish to be productive and successful, we must develop a systematic way of working.
When we are organised ourselves, we can create an orderly environment and by setting an example which others can emulate, we can expect a similar methodical attitude from others. And also, only then we are able to raise the bar of the quality and standard of work culture all round. Concurrently, the chances of our achieving success also go up.
With an ever soaring population, competition has multiplied manifold. People have become more ambitious and aware because of extensive exposure from social media networking. Hence, to remain in the race and beat the competition we need to be organised to the core. From a random study of people who have been successful, it can be easily seen that that most of them have had very organised working modes. As such, if this quality is lacking in us then as a first step we must inculcate it within ourselves posthaste.
Real organisation is a mental state, a way of thinking. Clarity in thinking and a clean desk are only expressions of an organised mind. To be really organized, we have to look beyond merely systematising our stuff. We must mentally discipline ourselves to think in an organised manner, because, for most of us, thinking is very confused and haphazard. Do we honestly understand our own minds? Are we really aware what our weaknesses or strengths are? Can we relate them in an organised manner? Devoid of well defined methods things become chaotic. Nothing runs in a smooth and orderly manner. Everything gets delayed and stress ridden.
It is only when we are organised that we waste less time, and accomplish more due to better time management. As we thus work more efficiently, we become more productive. When confronted with numerous things to be done, and many responsibilities, instead of panicking and allowing things to spin out of control, we must first sort ourselves out. We have to first decide what we need to do and also what we can ignore or discard. No matter how good we are at the work we are doing, if we are haphazard and disorderly, the end result is bound to be unsatisfactory.
Without proper planning, work is slow to take off, with interruptions occurring midway and finally it takes far more time to complete than originally thought. The outcome of such disorganised and unplanned work is a colossal waste of time and money and nobody benefits in the end. Certainly, one of the cornerstones of success is organization, and the key to being organized is self-discipline. Self-discipline is the ability to motivate ourselves to take action regardless of our emotional state.
Being organised is a skill. Like all other skills, it is a skill which one has to learn. Once we have learnt to identify and put in place techniques, methods and systems, the efficiency and productivity of our workplace and home will increase. It keeps people focused and aware of what is happening and hence we are in full control of the progress of whatever we are striving for.
