Trezena & feast of St Anthony at Siolim
PANJIM: The Trezena of St Anthony, at St Anthony’s Church, Siolim, will commence on June 2. Daily masses will be held at 6 am, 7 am, 8 am and 4.30 pm. On Sunday, June 8, masses will be held at 6 am, 7.15 am, 8.30 am and 9.45 am.
There will be no mass in the evening. The feast will be celebrated on June 15, and the masses will be held at 6 am, 7.15 am, 8.30 am and 10.30 am (High Mass), at which Fr Socorro Mendes will be the main celebrant.
St Anthony’s feast at Chinchinim
MARGAO: The Trezena of St Anthony will commence on June 3 at Deussua-Chinchinim.
The theme for this year is ‘Bhavart Ekchar Ghodta, Kuttumb Thirayta Somaz Novsorta.’ The Maddi will be placed on June 2 at 5 pm.
Daily masses will be from June 3 at 6.15 am, 8.15 am and 5 pm. The feast will be on June 15, with masses at 5 am, 7 am, 8.30 am, 10 am (feast mass) and Noon. The main celebrant will be Fr Alex Menezes, Rector of Rachol seminary.
Plaint of kidnap at Maina-Curtorim
MARGAO: A complaint of kidnapping of a minor boy has been filed by the victim’s mother at Maina-Curtorim police station. Maina-Curtorim police informed that Philomena Lopez, a native of Yellapur-Karwar but residing at Bacbat, Gandhi Road, Raia, stated that on May 28, at about 5.30 pm, unknown person kidnapped her minor son from her lawful custody. The police registered the offence of kidnapping under section 363 IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act 2003. PSI Pradeep R Velip is investigating.
Cash withdrawn fraudulently from ATM
PONDA: Cash of Rs 80,000 was fraudulently withdrawn from the ATMs of two nationalised banks in Marcela-Ponda sometime between May 23 and May 28.
In a police complaint, Joaquin Filipe Nunes of Arrosim-Cansaulim complained that some unknown person had fraudulently withdrawn cash of Rs 50,000 on May 23 and Rs 30,000 on May 28 from the two ATMs of the nationalised banks, using his salaried account of a bank in Vasco.
The Ponda Police has registered the offence under Section 379 IPC and is investigating the case.
Theft at Sanquelim house
BICHOLIM: Gold ornaments worth Rs 1.04 lakh have been stolen from a house at Sanquelim. According to Bicholim police, the burglary took place sometime between May 23 and May 30, when burglars broke into the house of Atchut Ghadi at Desai Nagar, Sanquelim, and decamped with gold ornaments from the cupboard.
Santa Cruz woman’s body found
TIVIM: A 48-year-old woman from Santa Cruz was found dead in the Chapora River at Siolim on Friday. According to Anjuna police, the body of Maria Conceicao De Mello was found floating in the Chapora River. Police sent the body to the GMC mortuary at GMC hospital at Bambolim.
Curtorim local assaulted
MARGAO: An offence of assault causing grievous injury has been registered by Margao police against Adriel Sequeira, a resident of Curtorim and against Eric Caieiro, based on a complaint filed by Aruj Vernekar of Borda-Margao. Vernekar in his complaint stated that the duo, near the KTC bus stand, Margao, after an altercation with the complainant, abused him and hit an iron rod on his head causing grievous injury. He stated further that the accused also damaged his Ritz car. Offence under section 504, 427, 326 read with 34 IPC has been registered against the duo and further investigation is being conducted by ASI Chandrakanth Talanekar.
Saad-Samvaad meet held at Margao
MARGAO: A Saad-Samvaad (Police-Public) meeting with the housing societies and Margao police was held on May 31, at the South Goa District Headquarter, which was attended by South Goa SP Vijay Singh, Margao DySP Mohan Naik, Margao PI Sudesh Naik, journalists and more than 100 members of the public. SP Singh replied to various queries put forth by the members of public. Earlier PI Naik welcomed and explained the purpose of the meeting. DySP Naik also addressed the gathering.
It was informed that the meeting was to bridge the communication gap between police and public.
