Pandiyan: Mormugao port will help industries from North K’taka

PANJIM: Mormugao Port Trust Chairman P Mara Pandiyan advised the entrepreneurs in Hubli region to utilise the facilities available at the port in Goa, to import and export vegetable oil, processed food, and other potential products.
Speaking at the trade meet organized by the MPT, Karnatak Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), District Industries Centre, and Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre at the KCCI hall at JC Nagar, Hubli, he stated that export and import through MPT would help the industries in North Karnataka region to expand their business.
The Chairman said, “MPT is multi-commodity port. In last two years, West Coast Paper Mill in Dandeli is importing wood chips through the port, and Japanese ships are brining wood chips every month every day, around 250 trucks are transporting wood from MPT to Dandeli and this import has increased the turnover of the paper mill as well. Two years ago, granite export from MPT was nil, and now, nearly 90 per cent of granite from Karnataka is being exported through MPT. Jindal is importing coal and is exporting steel through Goa, using the same railway rakes, and it has resulted in better benefits for the company and the railways.”  Pandiyan added, “MPT has a transparent administrative system, and exporters and importers are happy with the facilities offered there. The port has the facilities like tanks, cold storages and containers.” He asked the businessmen of the region to visit MPT to understand the facilities there.
Deputy Chairman, MPT, Cyril George, Senior Deputy Traffic Manager Y R Balagal, MSME Development institute officer PV Velayudhan, Shrinivasan, and KCCI President Vasant Ladawa also addressed the trade meet.
