PMC Bank completes 30 years
PANJIM: PMC Bank has successfully completed one year in Goa and as a part of celebration of its 30th year of service, a function was arranged by the Bank at Cidade de Goa on Thursday. The occasion was graced by Narayan Bandekar, President, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Shekhar Sardesai, President, Goa State Industries Association.
The Bank commenced operations in Goa on 13 September 2012 from five locations, viz, Caranzalem, Porvorim, Pedem-Mapusa, Ponda and Margao. Within a span of first ten months, the branches in Goa crossed the milestone business of Rs 50 crore. The bank has undertaken several activities like cancer detection camp, complete health check-up camp, eye check-up drive with distribution of free spectacles, etc.
Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank Ltd, was established in 1984. Within a short span of 29 years, the Bank has become one among the top ten co-operative banks in the country. It is the youngest bank to attain the scheduled status in 2000 and the multi-state status in 2004. Today, the bank’s area of operation extends to states of Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Goa, Gujarat and AP. It has proposed to extend it further to MP, TN and Chattisgarh. It has a network of 86 branches. The Bank has been declaring dividends continuously for the last 28 years. The net profit of the Bank after tax in 2012-13 is Rs 50.43 crore. The total number of customers serviced is more than 7 lakh and the total business exceeding Rs 7,500 crore.
The Bank has been adjudged as the ‘Best Bank’ for 9 consecutive years by ‘The Maharashtra State Co-operative Banks’ Association. The Bank bagged NPCI’s Special Jury award for NFS Operational Excellence 2012 in two parameters namely Business Transaction Decline and Charge Back Ratio. It got first prize from Banking Frontier for ‘Innovation in Training’ recently. The branches of the bank are open to customers 360 days ~ on Sundays and public holidays. It is the first bank to consider women of age 58 years as senior citizens for giving additional rate of interest on deposits.
In order to mitigate the hardship of mentally retarded or orphaned children, the Bank has been donating Rs 1 for each transaction in its ATM from and out of its Net Profit without extra cost to the card holder. The Bank has an ambitious growth plan to open 15 branches in 2013-14.
