 Chicalim assault accused surrender

VASCO: All the four accused who were allegedly involved in an attack on Jose and Roque Rodrigues from Chicalim surrendered before Vasco Police on Monday morning.
Speaking to Herald, Mormugao DySP Laurence D’Souza said all the four accused, Ganesh, Mubarak, Gracious and Baskar, involved in the attack on Jose and Roque Rodrigues near telephone exchange at Chicalim surrendered before Vasco Police after being on the run for four days.
D’Souza informed that the accused are sent for medical examination and that the police would seek remand for maximum days for their interrogation.
It may be recalled that the four accused persons on January 9 seriously assaulted Jose and Roque Rodrigues near the Chicalim telephone exchange and were since absconding.
As the police failed to trace the absconding accused, a group of fisher folks from Vasco fish market led by Roque’s wife, who sells fish at Vasco fish market, on Saturday marched to the Vasco Police station demanding immediate arrest of all the four accused involved in the attack.
Two unidentified bodies found
PORVORIM: Two unidentified male bodies were found in separate incidents at Betim and Curchorem on Sunday.
According to Porvorim Police, an unidentified male body was found near a cruise jetty at Betim. PSI Vilesh Durbhatkar is investigating the case. In another incident, an unidentified male of about 40 years of age, was found lying dead at the back of the road in front of the railway station at Curchorem. PSI Ashok Dessai is investigating the case.
Two casino employees arrested 
CALANGUTE: Calangute Police arrested two employees of a casino at Baga on charges of cheating their employer.
According to Calangute Police, Amit Chetnani, casino manager, complained that since December 2013, accused Saish Palkar of Naikawada-Calangute, working as a casino security, and Jocob D’Cruz of Saloi-Salvador do Mundo, working as record in-charge of the casino, stole used tickets of the casino and sold them to the customers as genuine, thereby cheating the complainant. Calangute Police arrested the duo under Sections 381,420, r/w 34 IPC and PSI Shrikant Pednekar is investigating. 
Marcaim VP hall robbed 
PONDA: Burglars decamped with electric wires and a fan from Marcaim Panchayat hall. The incident came to light on Monday morning and a complaint was lodged by Sarpanch Shailendra Panjikar. According to the complaint, the hall was closed after a cultural programme on Saturday. Police suspect that the incident could have occurred on Saturday night or Sunday. The loss is estimated to be about Rs 30,000. The burglars entered the panchayat hall by breaking the front door lock.
Theft at Pernem bar
TIVIM: Four persons have been accused of stealing cash of Rs 9,000 from a bar and restaurant in Pernem.
According to Pernem Police, Shashikant Mahale of Anale-Naibag complained that the four accused persons entered his bar and restaurant, abused him and also threatened to kill him. The complainant further stated that the accused damaged glasses, soda and liquor bottles, causing him a loss of Rs 30,000. One of the accused persons stole cash of Rs 9,000 from the drawer. PSI Uday Gawde is investigating.
Cops criticized over Vasco rape case
VASCO: The People Against Atrocities and Injustice (PAAI) on Monday condemned government’s failure of not providing justice to the 7-year-old girl, who was sexually assaulted in a school in Vasco on January 14, last year.  According to a press note, it is one year now and the police have failed to crack this crime and the culprit is still at large.
“The police have also failed to display the same haste and enthusiasm which they displayed in arresting Tarun Tejpal. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has also failed to show the same willingness that was shown in the case of Tejpal,” states the press note.
Course on finite element method
PANJIM: A one-day short course on ‘Finite Element Method’ was conducted on January 10, at Padre Conceicao College of Engineering (PCCE), Verna. The course instructor was Dr J N Reddy, Professor at Oscar S Wyatt Endowed Chair in Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University, who has authored over 300 journal papers and around 18 text books. 
Prof Arun Telang, Head of Mechanical Engineering, PCCE, welcomed while Dr Luis C Mesquita, Principal, briefed the delegates on the applications of FEM. Fr Alarico Carvalho, Principal of Fr Agnel School, New Delhi, talked of how FEM can help in the transportation industry. Fr Alfredo Almeida also addressed. Prof Alzira Xavier compered while Prof Hari Chandekar proposed the vote of thanks. 
The valedictory function which was presided over by Prof George Paes, Assistant Professor, PCCE.  The workshop was co-ordinated by Prof Neena Panandikar and Prof. Hari Chandekar.
Guv, CM greet on Milad-un-Nabi
PANJIM: The Governor, Bharat Vir Wanchoo extended heartiest greetings to the people of Goa and especially the Muslim brethren on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi. The Governor in his message said Prophet Mohammed bestowed us with the message of love, justice and brotherhood, which is of universal and eternal value and significance for human beings as a whole to lead a happy and wholesome life.  In the present day world, this message of Prophet Mohammed has a very special relevance.  He said we should rededicate ourselves to promote these valuable ideals.
The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar too greeted the people of the State and especially the Muslim brethren. He said that Prophet Mohammad showed mankind the path of compassion, tolerance, love, brotherhood and righteousness. His message has the power to lift the human race from ignorance, violence and moral decay to a life of peace, virtue and spiritual fulfillment. 
Two rescued at beaches
CANACONA/CALANGUTE: A 25-year-old man from Alto Porvorim was saved from drowning, while a tourist from Sangli was administered medical assistance in separate incidents at Agonda and Candolim beaches. According to reports, a family of seven members waded into a non-swim area at Agonda beach and a member was spotted swimming in deeper water; however, despite lifeguard requesting him to stay close to the shore he did not pay attention and continued. Due to rough sea condition, he was suddenly pulled by a rip current. Lifeguards noticed the victim in distress and rushed to his aid and brought him safely to shore.
At Candolim beach, a tourist was spotted in a semiconscious state in a non-swim zone at knee-level water. Lifeguards rushed to him and observed that the victim was under the influence of alcohol and was having trouble breathing and was also vomiting. The victim was moved to Candolim PHC, where after examination doctors referred him to GMC.
