 Workshops on kitchen gardens

PANJIM: Ashok Dande, landscape and garden specialist will be conducting two workshops on May 24, at his artistically laid gardens at Nagali, Taleigao. 
The workshops will be on growing of monsoon kitchen gardens (totally organic) like pumpkins, gourds, chillies, cucumber, yam, turmeric, ginger, tomato and other varieties, along with use of organic manures and preparing soil beds. The workshop will be held in two sessions ~ the from 10 am to 12.30 pm and from 3 pm to 5.30 pm.

One-day Vipassana meditation course
PANJIM: Goa Vipassana Samiti is organizing its south Goa monthly, 1-day Vipassana meditation course on May 18, from 10 am to 4 pm, at the Jan Ugahi office, 5th floor, Flat No 14, Vikrant Bldg, Malbhat, Margao. 
It is only for old students who have learnt the technique as taught by S N Goenka. It is held every third Sunday of the month at the same venue. 
Medical research publication released
PANJIM: The Indian Academy of Cytologists has released a scientific publication of medical research articles. The publication has been edited by Dr R G Wiseman Pinto and Dr Adithya S. The authors include Dr Poonam Agarwal, Dr K K Prasad, Dr Noora, Dr C Garg, Dr A Pinto, Dr Prashantha B, Dr Kunal Deore, Dr V Tomar, Dr Archana B, Dr D Dubey, Dr J Panchal, Dr K Garg , Dr Moses A, Dr R Mehrotra, Dr Kavitha K, Dr Monica Solomon, Dr Amar Ranjan Singh and Dr Sankalp Sancheti and many others
The topics covered include brain tumors, gastrointestinal system,thyroid, pap smear, guided FNAC, prostate, bone tumors, ovarian tumors, pleural fluid, lymph node, lung testes, breast, female genital tract liver, hematology diseases and pathological post mortems, etc.

Shivani excels at XII commerce
PANJIM: Shivani Divadkar of Don Bosco HSSPanjim, emerged as one of the top scorers in HSSC examinations, securing 93.16 per cent in the commerce stream. She scored French (99), Maths (98), Accountancy (99), Business Studies (95), Economics (96) and English (72). Shivani is the daughter of Shekhar & Hema Divadkar from Taleigao. She now plans to pursue the Chartered Accountancy course. 
Pravin bags Vishwashanti Award
PANJIM: Pravin Umanath Sardessai, a social worker from Adpai-Ponda was recently felicitated with the ‘Vishwashanti International Award’ instituted by Indian Cultural Society, Pune. The award ceremony was held at Azad Bhavan, Porvorim. Pravin was selected for his contribution to the field of social service.
 He has also been the recipient of ‘Best Social Worker’ from Directorate of Social Welfare, in 2011. The Vishwashanti Award consisted of a memento and appreciation certificate. 
Diploma course at Sanjay Centre
PORVORIM: Sanjay Centre for Special Education Goa has decided to start a diploma in Special Education (Mental Retardation) from the new academic year.
Chairman of Sanjay Centre for Special Education, Guruprasad Pawasker stated that the two-year diploma course has been approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). 
He said, “Every year, around 50 new students are admitted. Hence, it is the need of the hour to have a professional course. Students who have passed HSSC exams will be given admission to this course. In all, 30 students will be admitted to the course,” said Pawaskar.
Arthritis camp on May 25
PANJIM: As part of its golden jubilee celebrations Menezes Polyclinic, managed by Cosme Matias Menezes Memorial Trust, is organizing a free arthritis camp on May 25, at Menezes Polyclinic, Altinho, Panjim, from 9 am to Noon. The objective of the camp is the early diagnosis and the appropriate treatment of arthritis. Those suffering from joint pain, swelling, rheumatoid arthritis, spondylitis, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, connective tissue diseases like SLE, vaculitis can attend. 
Dr Ashish Rodricks, former lecturer, dept of Rheumatology, Christian Medical College at Vellore will conduct the camp. For registration contact Sapna Amonkar on telephone 2225918 or 2220237.
