Muthalik’s civilized society
I refer to peoples edit by Michael Vas titled ‘ Intolerance has no place in civilized society ‘. First and foremost this Michael seems to have caught the bull by the tool as he doesn’t seem to understand why we Goans both Hindu and Catholics have denounced Muthalik’s entry . How tolerant was he when he attacked the innocent girls outside a pub? Even dynamic BJP MLAs like Lobo, Cabral, Ticlo etc have condemned even their own government for allowing a hate monger like Muthalik to enter the state.
In his article he mentions some anonymous religious head having said that ‘conversion is our mission ‘ – no catholic priest or missionary will ever speak thus and these are nothing but mischievous lies to fool the readers . He has further mentioned the miraculous sessions being conducted by lay persons from ‘outside’ the state. He must remember that none of them have exhorted their listeners to carry a sword like Muthalik has done! Carrying a sword or a gun without permission is illegal and this is the very reason Goans are scared of these type of persons entering Goa.
Just because Muthalik sounded so simple , humble and like a sheep on television should not entice people like Michael to fall for his fake charm because he needs Goans to join his party which he intends to start in Goa shortly . This maybe the right time for the likes of Michael to join the Ram Sene, who knows ten years from now Muthalik may be the PM of India!

Statins have side effects
This refers to Dr Francisco Colaco’s article on Statins as a wonder-drug in your edition of 30th June 2014. While Dr Colaco is correct in most of his conclusions he brushes over the side-effects that statins cause. In long term usage, apart from regular aches and pains in muscles and bone-joints, statins are said to cause and accelerate diabetes and also cause memory loss.
The dosage of statins is therefore important and one should take only as much as to minimize muscle fatigue and ensure regular monitoring that the other diseases do not appear while at the same time cholesterol levels are within parameters. However, like they say there is a price for everything and therefore if you want to avoid a heart attack or preventive cardiac surgery then statins are the drug of choice for which you need to bear the pain, the avoidance of sweets and maybe not recognizing your wife sometimes!

Petrol price hike
There is no difference between BJP and Congress, it is same wine in different bottles. During the Congress regime, the cost of petrol shot up from Rs 35 to nearly Rs 70 burdening the common man, but in Goa,we are lucky to have Rs.11 less ofnevery litre of petrol due to promise of the Chief Minister during election. The present Prime Minister had promised during election to reduce the prices of essential items if BJP comes to power. The BJP came to power Modi became the PM but nothing has happened, the cost of some essential items shot up after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister and now the petrol.
We were expecting the Prime Minister to reduce the cost of petrol by slashing the taxes like Parrikar did. No it did not happen instead the government increased petrol prices by Rs.1.69. The political parties fool the people at the time of elections and forget them when the party comes to power.

Roadside trenches
The roadside trenches dug by the electricity dept for laying of underground cables are left open for days on causing a lot of inconvenience to the public. During the night there are no illuminated warning lights put up to warn the motorists of the impending danger. This job seems to be outsourced to a third party. Will the electricity department act in this matter?

Criminal waste of water
There is an establishment behind the Grace Church, Margão which has been closed for the past 4 or 5 years. Since last 5 days, tap water has been continuously freely flowing out as the meter and taps were stolen.
A concerned citizen informed the PWD at Monte and requested them to shut off the connection and tried to file a written complaint. The PWD staff refused to accept the complaint stating it was a commercial connection.
How can the PWD be so derelict in their duties to allow criminal waste of tap water.
Margao as it is get’s restricted water supply all these years, and with this water freely flowing out, the pressure drops even more, denying water supply to many consumers! Will the concerned authority look into this issue.
