The police are now armed with alcohol meter to test the level of alcohol in drivers and motorcycle riders. If the reading on the alcohol-meter is beyond a certain limit the person is booked for drunken driving. However, there are some pertinent questions that arise. Goans are habituated to having drinks off and on during the day and night. The question is whether the person driving a vehicle should be completely free from alcohol in his body? Is consumption of some amount of alcoholic drink permissible when driving? If so what is limit of alcohol intake that is permissible after which the person can drive without attracting penal action? It would be in the fitness of things for the people to know what this permissible amount of alcohol consumption in lay terms. The alcohol meter will show a certain reading which should not be crossed. In lay terms does this permissible limit pertain to a small peg of whisky/glass of beer or does it pertain to a large peg of whisky/bottle of beer? After all Goans cannot be completely isolated from the glass that cheers.
