The recent debate, wherein allegations were made against the Supreme Court of tampering with secularism, is uncalled for. The aggrieved judge could have refrained from making the issue public. It may be recalled that April 4 was Hanuman jayanti, a day auspicious for many Hindus too. But in a land like India where we have no dearth of holidays and festivals, it is not always possible to adjust dates. Plus, the past precedents of Apex Court have revealed how national holidays including, holy days have been used for holding such conferences.
