A tragic road accident has yet again snuffed the life of a youth in Velim. It is understood that this is the second such incident within three weeks. The life of the youth could have been reportedly saved if the youth was shifted to the hospital when the police had arrived at the accident site. It must be said that in such incidents the police need to act in a humane manner and do everything possible to shift the victim to the nearest hospital by calling for the services of an ambulance.
If the service of the ambulance is not available in quick time then the police need to see to it that the victim is shifted to the nearest hospital in the police vehicle or allow the accident victim to be shifted in a private vehicle. Life is precious and in an accident, time is of utmost importance. It could even mean a matter of life and death as was the case with the 21 year old boy who died at Velim.
The first priority of the police who arrive at the scene of the accident should be to shift the victim to the hospital. The police can complete all the other formalities and find out who is at fault latter on after shifting the accident victim. We cannot lose precious life due to road accidents for want of urgent medical attention.

Life saving services
Yet another budding youth lost his life at Velim. A couple of years back a young police inspector from Cuncolim was knocked down by a heavy duty national permit truck from north India when the police inspector was doing his duty.
I totally agree with the views you expressed in your editorial “More Velim waiting to happen” dated 30 May 2015. Many a times road accident victims or any other casualty are brought right upto Hospicio hospital at Margao. A lot of precious time is wasted till the victim is admitted in Hospicio hospital. I would suggest that NUSI Wockhart hospital at Panzorconi Cuncolim should be one of them to be utilized for these purpose.
The NUSI authority brought this land for the service of seafarers but latter gave it to Wockhardt group of hospitals to run it. The rates charged by the hospital is quite high. This hospital should work for the common people and accident victims. Few years back I even suggested that this hospital should have yellow fever vaccination center for seafarers and general public as it is centrally located for the talukas of Salcette, Quepem and Canacona.
I hope our ex-health minister and present chief minister Parsekar along with his team of ministers understand seriousness’ of the case and works on it. Just enjoying foreign tours on taxpayer’s money and bringing unwanted project like Mopa airport, Marinas and huge hotels is not required of you dear leaders national parties.

Ban of APSC
After the news of the ban of the Ambedkar-Periyar Study Circle in IIT- Madras, I visited their Facebook page to learn about their ideals. I was shocked to see how some posts on their page were openly condemning Hinduism under the name of rationalism. The Circle certainly appears to be attempting to fuel hatred against Hindi in the IIT campus.
We are aware of how the Dravidian politics has always been negative about Hindi, Sanskrit and whatever else they claim to be “Aryan”. Periyar’s hatred of the Brahmins needs no introduction. However, fuelling hatred against the so-called ‘upper castes’ (Brahmins) among the Hindus will do no good as it will further consolidate all the people on caste basis.
It is a shame that those studying in IITs have such a low outlook towards fellow individuals. The members of the APSC should rather be prosecuted.

Pay parking
Some people park their two and four wheelers in the parking lot in the morning and go to their workplace and return in the evening and take their vehicle home. Those of us who want to visit the bank, or shop in the market are deprived of our parking place. Either the authorities should insist on payment which could be no charges for first four hours and then twenty rupees every hour and if this is done the owners of the vehicle will think twice before parking their vehicles.
Our authorities are least bothered about this. Do you think the new parking place going to be built will solve the problem unless it becomes pay parking? Will someone listen to me?
