This is with reference to your news item Fr Eremito criticized (Herald, 2 Sept 2014). I would like to put across my views. Every Individual may have different personnel opinion about an issue. Fr Eremito must have given his personal opinion and need not necessary be of GMFSS saying that when Goa was liberated it was never given a chance to remain independent. I too feel we would have been better to be independent rather than to be a part of India.
I am sorry to say that after visiting more than forty countries and interacting with various people, I know what respect we Indians command throughout the world and how the facial expression changes when I tell that I am a Goan from Goa. Many readers who have travelled outside India will agree with me.
Every successive national parties have looted our natural resources, flouted environment rules, corruption has been increased and poor people never given to come up in life and justice. The BJP too cheated the Goan electorate by promising special status but failed to keep it promise.
Finally I like to add that “Even animals retaliate when their peace and habitant is disturbed” and I agree with Fr Eremito statement.

Rapes & politicians
Rapes have become too common in our country. They are being highlighted in the press and on the electronic channels in spite of which there is no political will to deal with the rapist with the most stringent punishment. They lower the image of our nation. Honor killing, love jihad, vengeance and dowry settlement seem to be many a time the reason for rape and death. The poor victim who is the weaker section of the society is at the receiving end. Where is our country leading to?
In a recent remark made by a politician that rapes will not end unless God comes down is baseless and with no intention to make life safe for women in the country. Every human being is in the image and nature of the Creator. But it appears that in present time we have taken in us the nature of the demon that destroys life.
Let us learn to respect every woman in the country as much as we are obligated to respect our mother, an aunt or a sister in our own family.

Double-decker train
The much-touted Mumbai-Madgaon double-decker train’s first foray was a complete disaster. The train was introduced to cater to the Ganpati festival rush to the Konkan as all other scheduled and special trains were booked out within 5 minutes of opening of the booking windows.
Ironically, bookings for the double-decker were below 20% on all days. Poor planning on the part of the authorities was mainly responsible for this fiasco. The profile of the Konkan traveller is predominantly middle class; the dynamically priced tickets were unaffordable at over Rs 1,000; the tickets were available only online which is not everybody’s cup of tea; and the train had very few stops making connectivity to Konkan villages inconvenient and expensive.
The double-decker must be deployed to cater exclusively to the Goa rush all through the year except the four months of the monsoon when the train may be run only on weekends and extended weekends. Moreover, the double-decker must be run as a regular AC train and not as premium train. Such a train will run to full capacity.

We, the Aldona Civic and Consumer Forum, would like to thank the engineers, technicians, linesmen and staff of the Nachinola sub-station of the electricity Department, for working overtime on Ganesh Chaturthi, struggling for many hours to restore power to the villages around.
