Of late there has been a spate of attacks on Christian churches in Delhi, damaging the churches, the statues, the tabernacle and decamping with the donation boxes. Thus far the law enforcing agencies in Delhi have not made any headway in detecting the cases, as till now no arrests have been made and the enquiries seems to be going on at a snail’s pace exposing the incompetency of the Delhi police in maintaining the sanctity of religious places.
All these attacks on the churches took place when the national capital was going to the polls to elect a new government and the attacks seemed to be deliberate and preplanned, to intimidate and influence the voters of the minority communities, by showing that it was the work of religious extremists, obviously to garner votes for the ‘secular’ parties. Therefore the Union Home Ministry should immediately order a discreet enquiry by specialized central agencies to determine the real motive behind these detestable attacks on the religious places of the peace-loving Christians and book the culprits behind these obnoxious crimes which are against the principles of secularism and liberty to profess one’s religious beliefs guaranteed under our Constitution.
