It is wrong on the part of the chief officer of the Vasco civic body to squeeze the common man to pay the salaries of contract workers by increasing the fees for birth and death certificates from Rs 15 to Rs 100. (Herald, October 17). This is too much for the common man. Since BJP came to power in Goa, the cost of everything is gone up, except the petrol. The chief minister also did not spare any one. The salaries of those working in private firms, shops etc remain the same for years together, but the prices of the essential items are going up every now and then. If the chief minister is very serious to rule Goa for another full term, he should intervene and direct the Vasco civic body to reduce the fees for birth and death certificates. It is nonsense on the part of the government to say that the validity of birth and death certificates is only six months, is there any expiry for them like medicines and other eatable items?
