The episode could have reduced the lifetime of the bridge by a few months. It has thus become essential to expedite the work of the new Zuari bridge on a war-footing. It is understood that the foundation stone for the new Zuari bridge will be laid in January 2015. The bridge needs to be completed in quick time taking into account the perilous condition of the present bridge. The episode also goes to prove the importance of having a four-lane bridge to face such an eventuality.
