should be condemned

Earlier we used to hear killing but now a days we hear beheadings, which is barbaric and cruel. Of late, we are hearing human sacrifices for gaining wealth, which is superstition. The latest news is 9-year-old boy was beheaded at a village 30 kms from Silvassa in Dadra Nagar Haveli , as human sacrifice for gaining wealth.
In this modern and progressive society, to hear about such a superstition shocks and pains us. The police should keep an eye on such of those who spread superstitions, in all the places , throughout the country.
We have to increase the police strength in all the states. We may encourage inducting more women police officers who have progressive thinking and management background. This is dangerous trend spreading in our society. We have to nip the trend in the bud.

Commendable job
We spend our winters in Goa to get away from frigid temperatures in Boston and every year I notice something new about Goa (our second home) that I like to share. A dear friend in Goa passed a few days ago after an illness.
We were saddened and grieving. Family and friends were bereft. Yesterday, we went to St Inez Crematorium for the cremation. The space at St Inez provided the necessary peace, quiet, open and clean environment where the last rites could be performed with dignity and grace.
The thoughtful design of the space has clean comfortable seating for the grieving. In times of stress, grief, loss and suffering if the last rites can be performed in a space that gives one solace and peace there is much to be grateful for. St Inez crematorium is to be commended for the service and comfort it provides.

Need for luggage

When we travel long distances in inter-state buses, depending on the bus type, large bags, suitcases etc are kept in the trunk (located at the back and/or on the side of a bus) by the conductor. This helps to avoid over-crowding and reduces inconvenience to other passengers inside the bus and falling of the bags from the overhead racks. When someone alights in the middle of the night or in the wee hours before the destination is reached, s/he could pick up (mistakenly or purposely) the luggage.
To avoid this, the conductor should issue token numbers or put a tag or write the seat numbers of the passengers on the luggage. When anyone takes out luggage, the conductor should verify that the correct piece is picked up by cross-checking with identifiers such as duplicate tokens or tags or with the seat numbers mentioned on the tickets. This procedure will avoid mix-up of bags that look alike or being stolen by another passenger and to trace the owner if someone forgets the luggage in the trunk.

Mhadei, lifeline of Goa
For the last sixty years and even during Portuguese rule Mhadei has been the life line of Goa. Each and every drop of Madhei water belongs to Goa.
Karnataka is well known for fighting with their neighbours for diverting water illegally. First they tried to divert River Krishna waters from Maharashtra ,they fought with Tamil Nadu to divert water from River Cauvery and now for the last so many years they are fighting with Goa to divert water from River Madhei
Karnataka had begun to execute their plan long back when Rao the father of Gundu Rao who was the Congress Goa desk incharge till last week was the chief minister of Karnataka. Since then, till date Karnataka had done lot of construction to divert the Madhei waters. Rajendra Kerkar and Nirmala Sawant shouted from top of the roof every time the construction for diversion began but in vain. Nobody responded for their SOS calls. Goa made a big mistake by trusting Karnataka and issuing them a letter of permission to divert water for drinking purpose. Goans have proved to the rest of India that really we are susegad people and Karnataka even the centre takes us for granted. Both our members of parliament never uttered a word in the Parliament.
Only recently MP of Bengal who is a Goan to raise this issue in the parliament. Shame to both the MPs of Goa, out of which one is a minister. Still it’s better late than ever. Let’s all Goans get united, come together the way we had come during opinion poll and Konkani agitation and fight the arrogance of Karnataka and the situation caused by our own Government.

Oscars – The next goal for ‘Naatu Naatu’
Indeed music knows no boundaries. It was a proud moment for every Indian as “Naatu Naatu”, the irrepressible fun track from the blockbuster “RRR” danced its way to a Golden Globe as the ‘best original song-motion picture’ at a star-studded awards ceremony at Los Angeles.
Intended as a merry dance number the Telugu song has been trending on reels and awards. The word “Naatu” simply translates to “dance” and the song is a call for all to dance together. The chorus also translates to ‘dance like you have eaten a green chilli” and “dance like a sharp knife”. It must be said that after winning the Golden Globe award, the odds of the song winning an Oscar has increased. It is pertinent to note that in 2009 A R Rahaman became the first Indian to win a Golden Globe for ‘the best score motion picture’ for the British film “Slumdog Millionaire”. The Danny Boyle directed film went on to win eight Oscars including two for A R Rahaman one of which he shared with veteran lyricist Gulzar for best song ‘ Jai Ho’. It is learnt that the song ‘Naatu Nattu’ has been listed for the best original song along with 14 others in the Oscars. It is indeed heartening to note that a song in a regional language has gone global and has won the award by beating songs by Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Lady Gaga… indeed a great accomplishment.

Railway’s illegal tracks
It is very distressing to see RVNL setting up tracks illegally particularly in private properties in Velsao.. How is it that the Goa Govt is allowing such lawlessness in Goa? It appears that the Ministers and MLA’s have been purchased by a specific corporation to pursue destruction in Goa! Are crony capitalists supreme over democracy, elected representatives and laws of the land?

Flights grounded
across United States
In an unusual development, thousands of flights across the United States were grounded on Wednesday following a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) system failure. As a result, pilots, airlines and airports without crucial safety information were caught entirely off-guard.
A whopping 3,704 flights got delayed, and 758 flights were cancelled within, into or out of the country. US President Joe Biden ordered the Transportation Department to investigate the outage and said the cause of the failure was unknown at this time. Although US flights resumed after the blackout, the authorities would do well to get to the bottom of the incident.
