Ordinary thief v/s political thief
Herald Insight has aptly drawn parallels between the ordinary thief and the political thief by relying on inputs from a video of an African speaker which truly defines the politics in Goa where the political thieves make crores of rupees, with particular reference to the mining loot. The tall promises made in the parties election manifestos stand hollow in deliverance as once their candidates are elected, they resort to their brand of divisive politics by polarizing society and indulging in destructive projects that are not people-centric and cause an imbalance to the fragile ecosystem.
Now juxtapose this narrative with Comedian Vir Das’s monologue “I come from two India’s’ at the John F Kennedy Center in Washington DC that has kicked up a storm in Parliament where he highlighted the country’s duality on current topics of Covid-19, rape, crackdown on comedians, dissent, farm protests etc. Both the speakers have made their point of view and resonate with the state of politics in Goa.
Now with elections round the corner all the viral videos and articles have come in timely for the electorate to take an informed decision to pick and choose their brand of candidates by discarding all the sitting lawmakers to the dustbin of history. In a related incident to mining, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has earned some brownie points by endorsing the Goa Foundation roadmap of putting the mineral wealth in the hands of people.

Problem of plenty for Goan voters
Goan voters could be facing a unique challenge while exercising their franchise in the forthcoming assembly elections. They could be facing the problem of plenty. There are several parties in the fray and it is no longer a fight between the ruling dispensation and the opposition party. There would be so many parties fighting the elections that independent candidates contesting the elections could well be a thing of the past. Each political party is promising the voters the sky.
Entry of political parties from the other states will probably make the coming elections the most closely fought electoral battle ever. It is for the voters to choose a party keeping in mind the future of the state. Of course voters have the option of not voting for any of the political parties while opting for NOTA. But then Goans must be aware that opting for NOTA could bring a party into power which may not be in the interest of the state. Goans have a number of political parties to choose from. However in the final analysis the choice of the people will be of paramount importance. There is hectic political activity going on in the run up to the elections with party leaders leaving their parent party and joining a new political dispensation. Only time will tell if it was a wise move on the part of these leaders. Be that as it may, people need to vote wisely as these elections will determine the future of the state in more ways than one.

Salute to Dr Blanche
Dr Blanche Themudo, a dentist by profession and a champion cyclist had come first in both trial selections cycle races, 20 kms and 80 kms held by Cycling Association of Goa to select the Goa team to take part in the National Cycling Event in Haryana. With this achievement Dr Blanche was automatic choice to get selected for the Goa State cyclists team.
But Dr Blanche was shocked to see her name missing when CAG announced the list of selected cyclists in the Goa team on 13th of November 2021,two days before the deadline issued by the Cycling Federation of India. This shows that politics is involved in each and every sports field as far as team selection is concerned. Having no choice Dr Blanche without any hesitation filed a petition in the High Court against CAG protesting against her exclusion in the state cyclists team for the Nationals. She also pointed out all other irregularities going on in the CAG. The High Court passed the order in Dr. Blanche’s favour on November 17th directing the Cycling Association of Goa to send the name of Dr Blanche Themudo to the Cycling Federation of India to include her in Goa State Team to take part in the National Cycling Event to be held in Haryana from 25th to 28th November 2021 in the Elite Women’s Category.
Each and every Goan is very much happy and delighted with this High Court Verdict which was spontaneous and just. Goans salute this brave lady to show her guts and courage and set an example to others to follow whenever they face such injustices. And simultaneously all sports bodies should learn a lesson from this incident.

Pre-poll promises
Apropos to “Kejriwal promises 4 guarantees to rickshaw and taxi operators” (Herald 18-11-2021). Delhi-based AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s weekly once appearances to Goa ahead assembly elections are assuming a familiar pattern. Land in Goa. Make tall pre-poll promises. Take potshots at the politicians from rival camps. Welcome on board disgruntled leaders from BJP or Congress. Promise more pre-poll promises in the next visit. Return to New Delhi.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal may be deluding himself into thinking that he is hitting the bull’s eye. However, the ground reality is different. People of Goa are getting tired of these election stunts. They do not want freebies. They do not want divisions. They do not want vote banks. They want clean governance sans grandstanding. They want protection of the unique identity of Goa. They want peace and prosperity. They do not want political tourists to disturb the status quo and sow the seeds of discord amongst people of Goa.
The sooner the assembly elections are held with a clear mandate, the better for Goa and its shy people. For the next five years this flurry of activities will come to a grinding halt.

Totally unfit to contest polls
This is to express my disgust on all those kids who are involved in the local politics under the shadow of their politician fathers, mothers and the wives of their politician husbands in participating in the election when voters should not encourage them on the ground that they lack so many attributes to contest the elections.
Today any father who is expert in looting the government Treasury and public also by extorting heavy bribe and knowing politics is the game to amass too much of illicit wealth in too short time, he immediately pushes his kiddy son or immature daughter or his flamboyant wife to contest the election with the fake excuse that people from their constituencies demand from them contesting of elections in their constituencies.
In fact, these sons, daughters and wives of the senior politicians are totally unfit to contest the election because their contribution in the development of their constituencies is nothing. In fact they are all useless, most of them are fit for sporting their latest cars doled to their fathers as bribe by influential persons.
The young sons and daughters of politicians want to be the legislators followed immediately by ministership when they do not do anything worthwhile to get them the election tickets. They ultimately succeed in their mission only because of their corrupt fathers whose surnames and “Care Of” play the whole trick. Otherwise these immature kids of the corrupt fathers and useless wives of their husbands, they are nothing but big zeroes. We have seen how the young immature children of seasoned politicians are restlessly promoting themselves as if they are inevitable. Some of these kids are parading with their fathers like magnet. But shamelessly they prefer this path because of the reward in MLAship and Ministership.
