Konknni Daiz a
good initiative
Congratulations to Raul Fernandes owner of Herald, Bab Vincy Quadros and Fr Myron Jeson Barreto on their bold initiative of starting the Weekly Romi Konknni page ‘Konknni Daiz’ the first edition of which was printed with great dedication in Review section of Herald on Sunday September 18.
I am sure it will get a wide readership and encourage our younger generation to read and write in Konkani. The only way to preserve our disappearing unique culture, heritage and way of life for future generations is by promoting our daiz which is our mother tongue Konkani.
I also agree with the Herald Insight dated Tuesday, September 20 which insightfully reasons why we all must do all we can to keep our beloved Konkani language going both at literary and academic level the later by giving the children a choice to choose between both scripts. The Education Department could form a committee also with members of various Konkani groups to solve this major issue .

Deceptive talks of politicians
The recent political development in the State has once again proved that citizens become sheer spectators whenever there is some dramatic change in the political set-up. It appears that once the citizens cast their votes their job is over as those who get elected run the government as per their whims and fancies and the common man has no say. Even though most Goans are angry and frustrated over the political development when eight MLAs defected, there seems to be very little they can do.
There have been calls from certain quarters for the public to have a peaceful and silent protest outside the residences of those 8 MLAs who have defected to the ruling party and even question them over their sudden change of heart. But the question that arises is whether such a move will have any desired result. It is said that in a democracy the voice of the people is supreme. But it seems that every time the people raise their voice it is scuttled by using government controlled machinery. It is said the people get the government they deserve. But in the present day it is almost impossible to see through the deceptive talks given by politicians before elections. Several videos are doing the rounds on Social Media of politicians promising not to change their party after getting elected. When politicians can fool people they can see they probably feel that they can also fool God whom they cannot see. God save Democracy.

Is every politician
a traitor?
A moment that makes us feel the floor just gave way under our feet when we were deceived by the traitors whom we put our last hope to save what is left of Goa.
It has been as if there is nobody in the system that we can trust anymore, every politician is a traitor, I feel so low today in my heart that I supported Congress my entire life, yet I will stand up again to fight like a soldier and I swear I will not rest till I bring out my intense anger and fight for our rights.
I can still say there are still a few in my country that can still save us from the tragedy our country is going towards with a lot of confidence, why cannot we change our vote that we had cast with trust to elect the candidate we trusted likewise that same traitor who betrayed us?
I strongly support this ideology of Javed Jeffrey who said these words. My last say we are being taken for granted off and on, we are the ones who forget easily, we are the ones who are responsible for digging our own grave because we’ve been silent spectators of these sly games, if we don’t come on the street to revolt now, we will be the part of the problem because we didn’t do anything to be the part of the solution.
Be the one who will be proud to say I did something or I tried till I dropped and in that will lie your integrity of being the true soldier.

Open up the tennis courts at Fatorda
The tennis courts at Fatorda stadium built for the National Games were ready at the end of 2021. Then came installation of floodlights, Covid wave, elections and monsoon.
Months later, the courts lie locked and unused and will deteriorate as time passes, whether they are used or not.
I hope the courts can be opened to the public immediately, to benefit local tennis enthusiasts, since there are no other public tennis courts in the area.
While opening them up, it would also be good if the Sports Authority of Goa sets up a user friendly method of booking and paying for using the facilities.

A new game
plan needed
Australia are the defending champions for a reason, and we got to see a glimpse of that on Tuesday. Despite scoring 200 plus score, we were sitting ducks with our bowlers who lost out a game in death overs to lose yet another game.
Cricket is a team game where performance is the name of the game. Having been shown exit gates too early in T-20 World Cup and now in the Asia Cup, we need to have a game plan to upset the applecart and win an ICC sponsored tournament after a long gap.
We need to have a strategic plan to make sure that we are at the winning post this time. The catalyst for achieving an unenviable position is in the hands of Indian spinners. Pinch hitting is part and parcel of instant cricket.
The captaincy lacked imagination and the fielding standard was pathetic. A new game plan with a new set of players, who are benched most of the time and waiting on the wings to fire all cylinders should be preferred playing instead of the tried and tested players.

Sad state
People can wear whatever they wish. That is freedom. Wearing a headscarf creates unrest in society. It is saddening that instead of guiding their children for healthy and prosperous life with education, tolerance, nationalism, and coexistence, these fanatics are poisoning their minds. In the long run, who will suffer, only the country and the same zealots and their families.
Only in India will liberals fight to cover a woman head to toe and support a husband having multiple wives or support not having basic rights, because they are not real liberals, they are communal agents, acting as liberals.
It is saddening that instead of guiding their children for healthy and prosperous life with education, tolerance, nationalism, and coexistence, these fanatics are poisoning their minds. In the long run, who will suffer, only the country and the same zealots and their families.

Multiplex cinema,
boon for Kashmiris
It will be a dream come true for Kashmiris, with the first-ever multiplex cinema set to screen films from October 1 this year.
The two epic movies Vikram Vedha and Ponniyin Selvan (PS)-1 will play at the new INOX theatre in Srinagar’s Shiv Pora area.
Family entertainment in Kashmir had taken a back seat for over two decades because of large-scale militancy. However, the administration’s plans to have cinema halls in all ten districts in the Valley could prove to be a game-changer.
