The SRS through Muthalik have apparently given an ultimatum to set up check points along the Goa border to prevent beef being transported into Goa. He says most Indians treat the cow as sacred. In that case, why are cattle being turned back on grounds of ‘unfit for slaughter’? Also, in keeping with his beliefs, would he mind keeping stray cattle in the safe confines of temple premises? After all if we are to go by Subramaniam Swamy’s recent opinion that God dwells only in temples, would Muthalik like to see the creature he worships walking the streets, lounging on roads and totally uncared for besides being vulnerable for ‘cow-napping’ by unscrupulous characters for illegal slaughter which will undoubtedly rear its ugly ‘head’? If he can oblige, it would give us one more reason not to wear helmets!! Then we can tackle the issue of potholed roads since its common knowledge that cattle take up plum positions on our roads and leave the potholes to the motorists to negotiate.
