The measures initiated by Manohar Parrikar, ex- Chief Minister of Goa to keep the opposition quiet by resorting to oppressive tactics was a serious blow to democracy. Because, in a democracy, the party out of power has the duty of criticising policies of the party in power and even offering alternative programmes. Parrikar’s repressive tactics may have served his purpose but certainly not of Goa’s people. In this context, no decent person with a trace of self-respect can stoop to mortgage his name and honour. Congress has MLAs without moral backbone, MLAs who place self above service and ones who run with the hare and hunt with the dog. I am sure Babush Monseratte will understand this better. We need strong opposition. Samir Kelekar deserves to be sent to the august House. MLAs with integrity are needed to make our Bhangarachem Goem truly Goy Goykaranchem.
