This refers to the letter on attack on churches by J. M. Almeida. Independent analysts feel pretty sure that the vandalizing of churches has been spawned by the BJP/Sangh Parivar agents and reflect BJP’s style of politics and culture. The vandalizing of the church in the South Delhi colony of Vasant Kunj was not an isolated incident. It was the fifth such occurrence over the last two months. It is to be noted that Sangh leaders have been targeting Christians, accusing them of forcibly converting Hindus, and portraying the religious minorities to be engaged in a sinister conspiracy to change the country’s religious demographics and make a large segment of Hindus suspicious of minorities in an attempt to further polarize the communities before the Delhi Assembly polls.
It is futile to ask for a “discreet enquiry”, as Mr. Almeida wants. The Central government’s control over the Delhi Police is perhaps the reason why it hasn’t named and will never name any of the apparent Sangh affiliates as a possible suspect. The PM’s silence regarding the atrocities is also to be noted.
