People’s power

People's power has registered a signal victory for democracy and freedom of expression in Goa and a telling blow to radical elements with the staging of Akantvadi Goean Naka .

The director Tausif de Navelim was apparently afraid of a law and order situation but being fully re-assured by the people assured he went ahead with staging of the tiatr.
This victory of the people should however not be seen as something to gloat about. It is a victory of all people, of all communities — minority and majority. It is imperative that Goans must be united — all Goans, in fighting radicalism and making no religious distinctions among ourselves.
We must take utmost care not to let polarization  seep into our polity, for this  is the  precise agenda  of radicals. If we are not united  we would be unwittingly playing into their hands.
Prof Robert Castellino, Calangute
