It is an inappropriate statement given by Samajwadi party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav that purdah system is an evil tradition and it hinders the progress of women. India is a secular country and everyone has a freedom to follow the traditions of their religion.
When there are no efforts to ban and outlaw nudity and we see our younger generation getting attracted towards the western dress sense then why is there a controversy over women who choose to wear purdah. Success can be achieved through wisdom and hard work but not through the choice of dress. If a woman wears it without any coercion then nobody should object to it. True equality will be had only when woman are free to choose what they want to wear.
