The quite, peaceful beautiful village of Arpora which was formerly under the Saligao Constituency, has seen a radical change under the Calangute Constituency. The erstwhile highly educated MLA Dr Wilfred De Souza never bulldozed any private property in Arpora, for the sake of hoteliers or hurt the sentiments of the locals. However, once Arpora was brought under the Calangute Constituency the village of Arpora was immediately changed by the local MLA Michael Lobo and the members of the Village Panchayat of Arpora-Nagoa, within no time, wherein age old trees were cut down and massive road widening was carried out without acquisition of land and payment of compensation, in accordance with law.
Recently, the Additional District Court at Mapusa, has granted status quo in one of such matters wherein private land in Arpora, was forcefully grabbed and a road was constructed through a private property, without the consent of the owners.
Now, with the Zilla Panchayat elections, every voter must exercise his/her right after analyzing the past effects of choosing a local representative, without examining his back ground, lest it might soon lead to Goa becoming a lawless State where might is right.
