Just when Indian hockey was showing signs of revival comes the stunning news that coach Terry Walsh has put in his resignation citing administrative hurdles. Walsh is known to be a no-nonsense coach who managed to deliver the goods in just one year as coach of the Indian hockey team. However, the administrative set-up was more than he could handle.
Babudom has been the bane of Indian sports which accounts for our poor performance in team events. Yet individuals sports-persons manage to beat the system and shine in their own fields. The new govt at the centre must put in place a system which gives more representation to sports-persons in the administration of sports bodies.
