Why only helmet-less riders?

Goa’s traffic police are so obsessed with enforcing the helmet rule that they go to the extreme of grabbing riders off their bikes. At first, one will applaud their dedication to enforcing road safety, but a closer look will make the observer discard those thoughts. The money involved in stopping every helmet-less rider is huge; for the government and the policeman on duty. This obsession of collecting revenue from these offenders has made the traffic police overlook rash and dangerous driving, which includes using cell phones while driving or riding – a common sight on busy roads. Despite numerous editorials and social media posts exposing the slackness of the men-in-uniform, the government has failed to rectify this system. The authorities need to take measures to root out the corrupt, on whose account the reputation of Goa’s entire police department is at stake.
