Danielle McLaughlin rape cum murder has brought a bad name for Goa Tourism industry and it is obvious the people of the area where the crime took place are sad and angry and have decided to hold solidarity meeting and half-day Canacona bandh to condole the loss of innocent life from the hands of beasty nature of human being. But the half-day Canacona bandh is really required? And solve the main issue pertaining local boys turning to criminal? When the majority of people of Canacona and local police are silent on major issues of tourism that is luxuriant drugs peddling activates engaged by many locals consisting of both youngsters as well elderly people the issue of criminality will never address. I say elderly since I came under very serious honest allegation eroding society from a local how a waylaid young boy went to certain house to get narcotics on Canacona coastal belt and since the main person of house who is in drug peddling business for long time was not at home at that time the elderly mother of drug peddler in her 70’s brought the narcotics from pig pen and handed it over to the youngster who in turn supply them to tourists.
It is alleged that the murder accuse Vikat Bhagat along with his gang comprising of local boys and also from Karwar/Margao were also in drug peddling business and this was even revealed by some foreign tourists that Bhagat was supplying drugs to them but with the exception of nailing of murderer in the drastic crime did the police ever question him regarding his dealing in drugs peddling activities as well the source of drugs? No! As obviously police and majority of locals who are holding solidarity meeting want to remain silence on this major issue of drug trafficking and peddling in Canacona taluka as this nefarious activity is like a honey continuously running through honey comb for Goa Police and locals engaged in tourism industry.
I am not trying to condemn anyone but want those people who are holding the solidarity meeting to address the core issue of criminalisation of our local boys. Vikat Bhagat is not a born criminal but surely something somewhere went wrong when he first turned to crime. Unless and until the drugs issue is not addressed seriously by the authority and intellectuals keeping aside politicians there won’t be guarantee that more Vikats may not come in existence on the Canacona coastal belt.
Meetings and bandhs are required to wake up the corrupt and faulty authority of Goa as well the recently formed backdoor Government of Goa but they are all futile if all the participants won’t address the major issue of drug peddling/trafficking and local police patronising of nefarious activities in Canacona.
