Clean our environment
I learnt of proper disposal of garbage from my sons who had been taught to do so by their teachers at Loyola High School, Margao. To pick up waste paper, never to burn even tiny bits of plastic, to reuse, recycle and replenish. Today, along with their classmates like Clinton Vaz, they are trying to clean up Goa. I am grateful to those teachers who sowed these seeds in them.
I do not find anything wrong if children learn about garbage in school and ensure that their surroundings are clean. They will be more sensitive to the environment around them. Minister for environment, Alina Saldanha needs to be applauded for her bold suggestion to introduce the study of garbage in school. How long are we going to keep our eyes closed to the filth in Goa?

Fishwater spill
Lately a lot of fish transportation vehicles carrying fish vendors from the Margao wholesale market to various areas of South Goa spill fish water on the road early morning. This spill is very dangerous for riders ~ especially at all the curves from the old market area to the Holy Sprit church and Hospicio area. During the early hours of the morning there is much traffic on the roads as most of the riders are parents ferrying their children to schools and many are female parents who are not aware of the dangers of the spill. I appeal to the authorities to act urgently, before there is any accident or loss of life. I have noticed that the vehicles are mid-size and not the inter state trucks ~ these are the vehicles with fisherfolk seated at the back.

Parrikar being misled?
After CCP corporator Surendra Furtado filed a writ petition at the Goa bench of the Bombay High Court challenging the cancellation of the CCP elections which were to be held on March 20, 2013, he smartly remarked during an interview with media persons that Manohar Parrikar is a nice man but must have been ‘misled’ into taking the decision on the cancellation of the elections to the post of mayor. In the same interview, Rudresh Chodankar affirmed that Manohar Parrikar is a nice person who has been misguided by others. In another interview, Vijay Sardessai too extolled emphatically that Parrikar, a good man is being misled into doing wrong things.
Surendra Furtado and all those who praise Manohar Parrikar while blaming an unnamed person for misleading him, seems to be confusing Panjimites. Knowing Parrikar well, we know it is not easy to brainwash and manipulate him or influence him with left handed compliments.

Congrats India
It is a great feeling that India beat the Aussies 4-0 and put them down under in the just concluded test series. It is indeed more satisfying as India repaid them in the same coin not only with the bat and ball but also via sledging which was once their domain. The critics and the Aussies may say anything about the pitches specially prepared to suit Indian spinners, but did not Australians prepare pitches suitable for their bowlers? Congratulations Team India. You were superb and incredible. Hope this hunger to win remains always and more so when touring abroad. Viva.
