The news that Dr Ulhas Karpe has been sacked from the Goa Medical Council is disturbing to say the least. Apparently, Dr Karpe has been dismissed following written complaints from homoeopathic doctors that he was asking for money from them, and threatening to report them for doing allopathic practice if they did not accede to his demands.
It seems that Dr Karpe has been framed without having been heard. There is no report of any impartial inquiry having been conducted to look into the allegations made against him and sift untruths from facts.
Until and unless this happens, the impression gathered will be that Dr Karpe has been unfairly victimised, for having possibly come in the way of some powerful lobbies.
I earnestly request the Health Minister to immediately reinstate Dr Karpe and institute an impartial inquiry to prove or disprove the allegations made against him, after hearing all sides.
Lately, the Goa Medical Council has been doing a good job by way of curbing several illegalities in the discharge of medical practice in the state. Any unilateral action by the government, like has been taken in the case of Dr Karpe, will only serve to demoralise the medical community.
Grossly unfair dismissal
