Gone are the days when we used to step in any restaurant and casually order for beef steak and wait for our mouth-watering dish to arrive and satiate our appetite. Who knows whether the Gen-Next will be able to relish the same in the near future if the ban on cow and bull slaughter is implemented in letter and spirit. They may be able to do so by producing a certificate from the MLA’S and ministers saying they are beef eaters.
Only the deputy chief minister has clearly stated that he is a beef eater and any beef eater should not be denied from eating the same, rest of our Catholic MLAs and ministers have played it safe saying that they will ask their high command in New Delhi and coax him not to ban this delicacy from the Goan Cuisine. This shows to what extent the minorities are being stretched to. First was the ‘Ghar-Wapsi’ (re-conversion) and disgraceful remarks on a saintly figure like Mother Theresa and now the food item that is enjoyed by the Catholics at feasts and parties. The third in the firing line may be the “Elixir of Goan life-style” belonging to the ethanol family.
For decades together this so called volcano of Hatred was dormant during the Congress rule but now with the ascendancy of the BJP both at the state and national level by decimating the Congress into oblivion this volcano has slowly started activating from dormancy to the point of active eruption and spewing out ash and lava on the minority community in the form of ‘Ghar-wapsi’, illegal land acquisition for mega projects against the will of the people and ban on animal slaughter with the help of PETA and some NGOs who care a damn to what happens to so many stray cattle and dogs. So my moot question is “Why did it take so many years after independence for this volcano to suddenly become active and erupt?
Those were the days my friends, we thought they would never end but sadly the beginning of the end is in our midst.
