Act today for a safe tomorrow

There is a message that is in circulation on social media that Professor Madhav Gadgil, the Indian ecologist had predicted that Kerala in the long run will see the devastation of unimaginable proportions. His prediction has turned into reality today. Kerala floods have totally ruined the state with a damage of around Rs 20,000 crores. Over 300 people have lost their lives and the number can increase into thousands if food supply does not reach the people in time. More than two lakh people have lost their homes. People are without water, electricity and food.
Have Goans thought even Goa can face this situation one day? The gentleman professor had given 2000 plus page report and had urged the government to take action. He had predicted that there will be landslides, the rivers will flood because there is no sand in its bed and riversides having illegal constructions. Kerala floods are a “Manmade Disaster”.
Nowadays it is a dream of some people to have houses facing river views but they don’t realise that they cause harm in the long run to the environment. Do not disturb or play with the nature. Nature gives you back. Today we get a chance to pause and ponder.
You may have millions but you may still die of starvation. Goans also have an attitude of ‘Mhaka kiteak podlam’? Hope we realise in time, otherwise we may not get an opportunity to save ourselves.
When you know or find the illegal filling of paddy lands, cutting of hills, destroying of mangroves, illegal sand mining taking place. Oppose! Protest! Come on to the streets! You have the power to stop illegal things. Otherwise one day even Goa will see devastation like Kerala floods. Don’t wait for others to take the cause because you have a family. Tomorrow you may not be able to save your family when natural disaster occurs.
It is your right to fight for justice. It is your right to fight against wrong. We should remember if we stand divided, united we will fall one day. And that day will be irreparable.
Wake up Goans!!!
If you want a safe tomorrow, act today!
