Having various competitions in schools and other educational institutions is absolutely needed so that our students enthusiastically participate and show their talent or skill. Nowadays all our functions like weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and even feasts are commemorated with competitive spirit in mind and in bombastic style. Even if one cannot afford, they either take loans or borrow and see that his/her celebration is grand.
Nowadays for our Catholic weddings there is lot of firework display which adds to environmental pollution and also waste of money. Donating this amount to Age Old Homes or Orphanage or for some poor children education purpose would give us immense satisfaction and inner peace. But some of us want to show off our wealth and so lavishly spent even where there is no need. The more the firework display in your marriage celebration, there may be more firing /fire in your married life and like a bomb your marriage may explode soon. So think twice before planning to put fire work.
On All Souls Day we see informal Grave Decoration Competitions in all our cemetaries. What talent are we showing here? When alive some of us put them in Age Old Homes and fail to give them love, concern and little attention (for which they are yearning) but after death we do all possible things only to show society our false love and power of wealth. Rich will decorate their beloved ones graves with most expensive flowers and bouquets but what about the poor? To show uniformity, only one or two types of cheaply available flowers should be used. If a wicked person’s grave is built with granite and marbles and decorated with most expensive flowers, will his soul go in heaven? Utter insanity.
Some keep their parents in Age Old Homes or leave them in their ancestral houses in villages to live a solitude life and settle in their bungalows/flats in cities. But after their death, some decorate their graves, some may not turn up for their funerals but will definitely come for their house and property share. Is this what our religion teaches us? Attending all pray services, retreats and regularly going to church is of no use if our practical life is full of bad deeds and evils thoughts of others.
