The proverb “Birds of a feather flock together” means that people who have something in common; who like to stay together and are happy to do the same things together, we say that they are birds of the same feathers and so usually group together.
The knot of human belonging automatically creates groups. Each group feels that they are superior than the other and to show that they often act like angry brutes; because acquaintance with evil, blinds us to its dangers.
Anger is part of human nature and may not be harmful when it is used with the right person, to the right degree at the right time and for the right purpose and in the right way; and if wisely used, it can make this world a better place. It can help to defend ourselves in dangerous situations by giving us a burst of energy; e.g. before freedom, British government made some rules as per their requirement. If we always had to follow those rules, then we would not have got the freedom that we got in 1947. Young Gandhi protested because he had ego, which was hurt and thus was a key player in India’s freedom movement. A social activist who feels no anger can never provoke change.
“But when anger becomes your master and you its slave then it is like what Buddha said: “Holding on to anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” It is a fire that burns self and others’. Anger leads to Jungle rule where we are not able to think properly and act rationally. It triggers insanity and damages human emotions and leads to blood war.
“The rule of the jungle” is “survival of the strongest” — “kill or be killed”. Under jungle rule no man’s life is safe, no man’s wife, no man’s mother, sister, children, home, liberty, rights, and property. People use force to get what they desire. People kill and rob according to their needs and moods. It is a situation where girls are raped and people are murdered and everything turns into a chaos; there are no traffic rules, anyone can go anywhere; anyone can do anything, ride anywhere, in long-run, it becomes a torture with no rule and no one to control traffic. Motorcycle riders behave as if they are road kings. Buses run on the roads to collect passengers, as if on the race course; speed maniacs of brute force and rowdies turn in any direction by squeezing through the narrowest available space by twisting and turning to avoid obstruction. These Lords of the road treat pedestrian on their way as invaders of their personal domain (road) and often dash and crash causing death.
A life without rules will be like a boat without a boatman. So, rules are more important for our lives. They help us in supporting human existence on Earth.
So, under human march of intelligence we have the rule of law where protection is provided for all people and institutions as it is efficiently and honestly administered and its power and authority respected and obeyed.
We all should hope for a world where there is the rule of law and not the rule of the jungle to govern the conduct of people in this world.
