Bulldozing of citizens’ dreams

There is so much happening in India of late. Those who missed and failed to watch those actions and reactions are the blessed ones. I say blessed ones because watching those horrific scenes of their cowardly acts on television by the powers that be should make us feel ashamed of being an Indian in the first place. India has definitely taken a severe beating on the world stage.

There is so much anger and hate vented out against fellow Indians, be it any community, there is always a law to be followed. It’s anyone’s guess as to where and when will it take us to peacefully co-exist in this country? The prompt intervention by the Gulf countries which emboldened the minorities to vent their anger towards the inhuman treatment meted to them.

First and foremost, why should be there any differences among the various communities if we are to believe that, “Sabka ka Sath, Sabka Vikas”, “Achhe Din Anne Waale Hein”… are some of the popuolar slogans of Indian government. But what we are witnessing today is just the opposite. Is this the democracy that India proclaims and showcases to the world? Where are those all democratic norms gone that we once followed and cherished? It took decades of laborious years’ to build up the communities’ faith in the democratic system after those bloody killings and  massacres of the past. And waking up to the 21st century, the citizens today have to witness something very unusual that  sent the alarm bells ringing. Yes, I am talking about the bulldozing of citizens’ homes and their dreams.

There is no gainsaying that today’s politics and politicians have stooped to such a low, that they are just being bought and sold like the cattle in the wholesale market to the highest bidder. The latest episode of Maharashtra politics is a glaring example. For how long are we to bear with the toothless anti-defection law? The entry of criminals into the main political stream has shown the world how hollow Indian democracy has been. In the name of God, they go on unleashing hatred against minority communities. Why? Haven’t we lived the past together? So what went wrong now? Indian democracy itself is at the crossroads. The abuse of Gods during and after the elections has shown the susceptibility of the gullible Indian electorate. The bowing to animal rather than God has taken away the shin of the very fabric of humanity. And that trend of enforcing on the general public is nothing short of a human tragedy in the making.

Close at home, the government is fast tracking the project of searching archive records in Portugal instead of concentrating on its governance and giving relief to the people from its mismanagement at home. Rewriting history should not be the priority but governance is. The people are yearning for peace and happiness from the political class, but in reality they give us their tantrums of past history which serves no purpose but for their own selfish hidden agenda. I wish and pray that the government will concentrate on its day to day administration rather than go after the past records. The past cannot be repeated nor should be unearthed to divide people on communal lines. So please stop that exercise and spread a word of kindness so that all communities live in peace and harmony.
