There has been a campaign for blood donation. It says that there is no harm in it except in certain physical conditions. The campaign also tries to make people unlearn myths against blood donation.
It motivates many people to donate their blood. Yet many people fight shy of it. It is because some people still believe in myths that it may cause negative effects on their health or because they believe in one superstition or the other.
But there are other people who do not believe in myths and superstitions but cannot donate blood for their personal physical or mental problems. However, they always admit that this is a good job. And it should not be obstructed by some prejudices although they themselves cannot be doners for their personal issues.
It is really funny that a few people take offence in the campaign. They argue that to say blood donation is a good job implies that those who do not donate blood are actually bad persons! After that they enlist how many good things they have done in their lives to show how fallacious it is to propagate that blood donation is a good choice!
This logic is funny because if I say all Indians are good people then it does not mean that all foreigners are bad. Imagine how ludicrous it will be if I say soldiers are brave and some civilians accuse me that I have been calling them timid!
There is another important campaign for blood mixing that is in favour of inter marriages. It says that we must shun our apathy against inter-caste or inter-religious marriages which sometimes culminate to honour killings. But this campaign does not say that you cannot marry within your caste, creed, religion and race. To say such kind of thing will be like propagating another prejudice to do away with the existing one.
These campaigns are against existing myths, superstitions and prejudices about blood donation and blood mixing. All they want to say is that one should have a free mind to take a decision either on blood donation or on selecting one’s spouse. There must not be any coercion either way. These movements are always against any kind of coercion.
