Celebrating herself

Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim….. Not quite a long ago I read this quote by Nora Ephron which by a fact made me ponder upon the idea that even after years of independence; are women of our country still victimised under the stigma of the society? Despite being in the 21st century, our women still find it difficult to accept the freedom they deserve. We as women need to consciously accept the social hierarchy that gives significance to our existence. Self-acceptance is the most powerful weapon that a woman can possess for real.

A year contributes to a sum of 365 days in our lives and yet we choose to celebrate women on only one day and March 8 it is! Moreover, this day ignites celebration all across with various group gatherings, institutions acknowledging and felicitating women, speeches, parties exclusive for ladies, demand and hype of the color pink. All of this vividly portrayed in the sky around us and all of this just for a day. What happens on other days is an usual sight of women whose opinion is last on the radar.

O Women! Answer me, “Can you honour yourself just for a day?” Is that what you’re worth?

All that you are is not a tiny speck in the universe but rather a massive whole. Why are we made to forget that Aatma prem is a personal responsibility and not a social choice. We often fail to recognise the worth of our soul which helps build us. A woman is not merely a subject to body but a creator who intricately designs her thoughts as a message to the whole world. To love another being is the easiest thing in the world. Ever tried expressing the same amount of love to yourself? Rarely, right? Because as women we are conditioned not to believe and love ourselves less. We are meant to adapt to our changes, accept transitions like nobody’s business and this entitles us to think of ourselves as not good enough, and that others are far ahead than us.

We are often caught in a web of comparison and have always struggled to accept ourselves as we are. The condition to feel competitive and to adhere to the demands of the society often distracts the focus and energy level. It is daunting to be oneself when expectations are heavy. The thought of not worrying about what is expected from us; as women, is a journey by itself.

At the end of the day, keeping yourself happy by embracing every move will change and allow growth in your life. Understand that no journey is same. We are unique characters born to unfold our individuality. Don’t be reluctant to showcase your rebellious self. Conceptualize self-love by reflecting on yourself. Know what weakens you and work on building the strength required. You are valuable because you are you. There is no cost in creating a confident, comfortable and happy you. Be an advocate of yourself; interrogate and evaluate your fears. Gain clarity to the obnoxious part that stops you from experimenting.

Women! Seize every moment as time stops for none. Understand your wants, needs and desires. Most importantly, celebrate yourself! Speak kindly to yourself and be your own cheerleader.

So, let’s embrace womanhood not only on March 8 but rather everyday by being a hero who uplifts other women.
