Man is a unique creation. God created man in His own image and likeness. Blameless, pure and holy like Him. The greatest privilege of being and living eternally. But alas! Unfortunately! Man lost the paradise due to sin and together with it lost the holiness and purity of heart and mind. Moreover, living eternally.
The humans still continue to live in sin as if it is their ‘birthright’ even after being redeemed and set free from the slavery of sin and shame through the Paschal Mystery by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
‘It’s enough. I had my share and I’ve had enough of it’. This short phrase expresses a lot and gives a clear-cut message that one is unhappy after a particular situation and don’t want to be a part of it or even don’t want to continue.
Through this statement, the person also wants to tell us that he/she has had an experience. An experience which has taught a lifelong lesson. Absolutely! Any experience leaves traces of good, not so good and bad things. So too, positive or negative feelings and emotions. For we humans are a library of varied feelings and emotions!
So, the phrase ‘I’ve had enough’ is like a speed breaker. It is a call to slow down and introspect one’s words, actions, deeds and whereabouts, and all that is connected to one’s daily routine. The very fact one had the awareness, manifest one’s imperfections, wrong doings or failings. It motivates to look into the loopholes and inspires to be more cautious and utilize the energy and talents for one’s benefit to progress in life. To do away with that which creates or brings pain, hurt and misery in one’s life.
Surely, the acts of commission and omission are realized. And this realization enables one to be in peace rather in pieces. This realisation enlivens the heart and mind to be in touch with oneself which gradually unifies the being with the Divine, with God. The realization touches one’s core or the conscience. Thus, when one’s conscience is one par with God or when one’s conscience is sensitive, then only one realises and accepts one’s fault or mistake. Which is the sign that God dwells within us.
Hence, the little experience one had, becomes a turning point and it becomes the reason to seek good and shun evil. Recently, I met someone who is a technician. He said, I am not a hardware nor a software engineer. I don’t have any degree. I just started as a simple helper assisting my seniors. Today, I have become an expert, only with experience. Learning from the mistakes we came across. Those mistakes which gave us many other options to try differently and we succeed.
No doubt, those mistakes were work related. Similarly, there are other mistakes which we commit apart from our work and they too give us many other options to undo those mistakes. To choose that which kindles hope, that which elevates, that which nurtures and sustains life. To boost our energy with healthy workouts, play, social service… to do good rather than harm oneself or the other.
It is said, know your worth. Know when you have had enough. And move on from the people who keep ruining your happiness. As St Peter encourages us saying: cast your worries, anxiety on him, because he cares for you (1 Pet. 5: 7). Who else will teach us if not our own ‘encounters’ ‘experiences’ who are part and parcel of us!
