Clean Goa, Clean India

Our CM and PM were seen on newspapers wielding brooms cleaning dirt which looked like a theatrical performance. But their aim was good. It was to trap people to imitate them to build ‘clean cities’; as ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’.
But will this self-publicity, self- pleasing picture by politicians pass or fail?
It all depends on the citizen’s way of thinking as there are many setbacks and knocks to change others. According to the nature of things the dust raised due to ‘cleanliness’ will settles down and everyone will go back to the same old life again as was the case of “Chak-a-Chak Goa” campaigns some time back. Really, there can be no victory with mere intentions of CM and PM.
Can’t the mindset of civilian be changed? Yes and No.
Yes, if the CM and PM are wielding a magic broom. No, it can’t, as great many people do not do what they are told to do because they have hard minds. But mercifully, not to anger elected officials, some students have been forcefully made to imitate the politicians.
We observe the existence of different areas: The area of military quarters is a heaven of orderliness — a picture of cleanliness. But the picture is not the same where ordinary people reside.
Let me conclude with these titbit opinions: Some say that military culture of cleanliness can be achieved by the general public with short-term-mandatory recruitment in the armed forces for all young adults on attaining the age of majority.
Others say we have to catch the citizens young and change their mindset in school and colleges by introducing a subject to bring out the impact and effect of cleanliness and wait for time to bring in the change.
Still others say that the Government could create new jobs to collect plastics from every nook and corner of our country by engaging the scrap of society — those who move with tattered clothes, rickety legs, hungry bellies drawn back like a hollow, living a sub-human life. They can earn some income. After all they have ready hands to work but no employment.
