First of all I congratulate the Canacona Police officer Philomena D’Costa and his team which include the singing cop DYSP Sammy Tavares for cracking the Danielle McLaughlin rape cum murder case within very short period of time.
The murderer Vikat Bhagat has brought a bad name to the entire State of Goa through this gruesome murder of young Finnish lady and now the Canacona Police should see that the accused person should spend rest of his life in jail by bringing clinching evidence against the accused person and not let if any more are involved.
As tourism is fast spreading over entire coastal belt of Canacona it is becoming very hard to know who are Goans and non-Goans in Canacona. Drug trafficking is the major problem of Canacona tourism belt and Goa Police cannot deny it as it seems and alleged the local running business on coastal belt as well non-Goans are major stakeholders of drugs trade in Canacona with active support of local police personals who are on payroll of drugs-traffickers.
Recently there was huge cry in Canacona how local criminals are making hay while the sun shines with their extortion activities and robberies. I hope the Canacona Police have prepared a dossier of those trouble makers and the name of Vikat Bhagat was figured in it if not now they have to act now before another innocent become victim of the nasty crime. As per my information it seems there were around 100 local boys who are indulging in various criminal activities around Canacona Municipal area but police figure shows just around quarter of it.
It is very sad local boys are turning to criminal activities and during my recent visit to my taluka while attending Sunday mass it pained me to listen how the Parish Priest was apprehending parents of the lads waylaying and also apprehensive if some local boys attending mass looks like as if they were drunk or high on drug. The fearless priest rightly and humbly requested parents to keep a watch on their children as tourism has not only brought boom to the people of Canacona but brought more evil in the society.
The local law abiding citizens should also inform the Police if they see doubtful characters mingling with foreign tourists especially young girls like late Danielle so that cops can keep watch on their movements. The Canacona Police also do more patrolling during day as well night especially the tourists belt of Canacona Municipality not just by Police Jeeps but by either using bi-cycles or motorbikes to keep a constant watch on local criminals under their dossiers.
Now let us hope the departed soul of Danielle McLaughlin rest in peace and never again this type of gruesome murder happens in our beautiful taluka of Canacona and Goa.
