Cow slaughter

We talk about empowering women yet we encourage all the evils that hamper this empowerment. We have signed Convention of the UN which opposes violence against women, yet a drunken husband has murdered his wife, just a couple of days back in South Goa. Rape, murder, road accidents, domestic violence and sexual abuse of children happens due to alcoholism. Alcoholism is one of the causes of rising incidents of divorce, depletion of family finances, harmful effects on school going children above all death of the alcoholic.
The Supreme Court was pleased to ban the mushrooming of alcohol outlets on the highways. The permissions for sale of alcohol are granted to those who enjoy favour with politicians.
We are not against anybody’s legitimate business, but all business should be conducted with due respect to rules of business. There has to be a policy for the secular fabric of our Nation that is being ripped apart with insinuatory slogans of ‘ban cow slaughter’ and joining the refrain is a local MGP chief.
We are a beautiful country of diverse cultures, religions, and food habits. We have co-existed in peace and harmony, respecting and celebrating our unique diversity. The lynching of people, killing in the name of religion is the worst crime against human dignity and rights. Demand for ban on consumption and sale of meat is only a new game to incite and instigate communal tempers and politicize non political issues. This hate campaign has to stop.
The freedom to eat what a man likes is his fundamental right and there will be law and order problem when people are provoked by such politicising. Goa state along with other states should not fall prey to it, granting of trade licences to liquor outlets and the timings for the same.
We feel that Government has to have a policy in place concerning the number of such outlets, and in no way can the Government ban legal consumption or sale of beef.
